Beets, logos, rock posters and the DDC
I’m working on an illustration for my pal Chantelle of Blackbird Presents, who, with her husband Jeff, has purchased some land across the river in WA and they are building a farm. I couldn’t be more pumped about this. Originally I thought I would be working on a logo, but after meeting with her, we decided it actually will be for signage, along the lines of what I usually do - rock posters. Regardless, it’s gonna be fun to draw some corn, beets, pumpkins, chard, artichokes, peppers, lettuces and all sorts of veggies under the sun.
So in doing some research, I thought of Aaron Draplin, and asked him if he had any great imagery stored away in his vast riches.
Hi Aaron,
Long time fan of your work here. A fairly well known Portland rock-club “booker”, Chantelle, of Blackbird Presents, is starting up a farm and has asked me to design the logo. I’ve been designing posters for her for a while, and now I am so pumped to design a logo for her farm. Farms have been high on my list for a while. I caught your talk at Designspeaks and really loved the story about your work for John Hughes. I’m about to do some research, and was wondering if you had any resources you looked at back when you were working on the Redwing Farms logo. Images, flickr sets, books, stories.
Thanks so much for your time,
Draplin dug these up. Get your asses over to draplin.com for more stuff like this. There were tons more, but these ones really grab at me. Man, sometimes I feel all soft about how supportive and helpful Portland’s design community is. Share your resources, and your love for all things design. It’s a special place, or maybe, it’s a special industry. Or maybe all industries are that way, though it doesn’t always seem like it.

Hell yes there will be a tractor in there somewhere.

Might I also add, that Chantelle is seriously one of the nicest folks in the world. A real keeper in terms of clients. Did I mention I am pumped? I am.
